„Der Prozeß der Bewußtwerdung bei den Zigeunern kann sicher nicht ohne „positive Gadsche“ stattfinden, wie der Präsident der Romani Union, Dr. Jan Cibula, jene Nichtzigeuner nennt, die gemäß der Identität der Zigeuner mit ihnen für sie arbeiten. Es ist schwer für die Zigeuner, solche „positiven Gadsche“ zu erkennen. Zu oft haben falsche „Freunde“ sich in ihr Vertrauen eingeschlichen und später zigeunerische Eigenschaften, Gesetze, Tabus, Sitten und Gebräuche, Sprache und Tradition verraten und damit vernichtet – auch wenn dieser Vorgang nicht immer die Konsequenz der Gaskammer hatte. (…) in fast zehnjähriger Arbeit mit Zigeunern und für Zigeuner haben wir ihre Gebräuche und Gesetze (soweit uns unsere Freunde Einblick gewähren konnten und durften) kennen und schätzen gelernt. Wir wissen genau, was wir davon weitergeben dürfen. Das meiste von dem, was uns von den Roma zugänglich gemacht wurde, werden wir für uns behalten: wir werden das uns geschenkte Vertrauen nie verletzen. Deshalb müssen wir unser Engagement scharf abgrenzen gegen philantropische Liebhaberei und „tsiganologische“ Selbstbestätigung“ (Geigges und Wette 1979: 34).
„Aber merken wir, solche Funktionäre, Institutionen oder Privatpersonen, welche im Roma nur ein Objekt für Manipulation sehen, welche sich von der zigeunerischen Problematik einen guten Beruf, zu machen suchen, deformieren und stehlen unseren Reichtum an zigeunerischer Kultur, und eben das Geld. Es ist uns egal, daß diese Gadsche oder Roma sind. Denen sollte man sagen „gehen Sie Ihren teuflerischen Weg, wir arbeiten mit reinen Händen, für Karrieristen oder Professionelle haben wir keinen Platz!“ (…) Wir werden alle Kräfte vereinigen, wir kennen doch am besten, was und wo es uns wehtut, unsere Schwierigkeiten, unser Herzeleid und unsere Freude.
